Bandweaver has been awarded the contract to supply a real time thermal rating (RTTR) systems to Enerco for the Luchterduinen (formerly Q10) wind farm.

The Bandweaver real time thermal rating (RTTR) system is used in conjunction with fiber optic Distributed Temperature Sensors and is used to protect a 32km link offshore wind farm export cable.  Invensys supplied the project in partnership with Sensornet.

The 129MW Eneco Luchterduinen wind farm is located 23km off the coast between the cities of Zandvoort and Noordwijk in the Netherlands. Dutch energy company Eneco and Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation developed the offshore wind farm by a 50/50 joint venture. The completed cost of the project was €450m ($480m).

The wind farm occupies a 25km² area off the Dutch coast at water depths ranging between 18m and 24m. It is located 17km south of the existing Eneco-operated 120MW Princess Amalia Wind Farm, which opened in 2008. Both wind farms operate from the port city Ijmuiden in North Holland.

The Eneco Luchterduinen wind farm generates clean electricity for nearly 150,000 houses.

The offshore wind farm consists of 43 Vestas V112 turbines of 3MW capacity each. Each turbine mounts a monopile foundation. It has a hub height of 81m, blade length of 55m, and rotor diameter of 112m. Each turbine is on a 62m-high tower above sea level.
